PSA is a registered charitable organization #11907 6362 RR0001

Donation Overview

Thanks to the wonderful support we received from the community in 2002, we were able to increase the size and scope of our programs. It is this support that enables the Paralympic Sports Association to reach out and positively affect the lives of as many people with physical disabilities as possible. Reaching out to these people is even more important and difficult in Alberta, because, as some of you may know, Alberta has the highest rate of people of physical disabilities per capita.

The programs are the most important part of the PSA, and it is the expenses of running the programs that we are looking for funding for.

There are many organizations in Alberta and more specifically Edmonton, that are looking for funding to be able to continue to improve their programs and services, so why the Paralympic Sports Association....

Many of the well-known charities around Edmonton are organizations that attempt to find cures for various illnesses. These are very deserving organizations, but one area that frequently doesn't get much exposure, are organizations that help people deal with terminal problems, such as people with physical disabilities.

Having a physical disability is something that you have to learn to live with, and that is where the Paralympic Sports Association's programs help. Our programs and services are aimed at helping people with physical disabilities be happy with themselves and with their lives.

The PSA uses sport and recreation programs to help people learn the skills they need to be an active, contributing member of society. Participants not only get the physical benefits of being active in sports, but they also get the social and mental benefits of being able to interact with people in similar situations as themselves.

Where the Money Goes

As someone looking to donate to an organization, your first question should be; How much of my donation is actually going to the cause?

By donating directly to one our programs through our office, 100% of your donation can be used to go towards the program of your choice.

One thing that we pride ourselves on, is our high rate of program costs to operational costs. Within our one year budget, our program costs are far above our operational costs. In 2003, we are looking at having our program costs between 65% - 75% of our total costs, which means we are designating the bulk of our budget towards our programs.

During the 2002/2003 programming season, we run programs and events such as

  • Adapted Floor Hockey
  • Canasta Club
  • Fun for Kids
  • Teen Group
  • Sledge Hockey
  • Square Dancing
  • Swimming
  • Indoor Soccer
  • Tae Kwon Do
  • Outdoor Soccer
  • Roller Sledge Hockey
  • Disabled Curling
  • Camp Unity
  • One-For-All Summer Day Camps
  • Mothers’ Retreat

The funding that we receive for our programs goes towards; Facility Rentals, Equipment Purchases, Uniforms and Field Trips.
