Spring/Summer Programs

2008-2009

As I know you are all anxious to set up dates for summer travel and to organize the families sporting events. I am sending you an outline of the PSA Spring & Summer Guide to assist you with the planning of the family events. PSA is looking forward to a great line up of spring and summer opportunities. 2008 Spring/Summer Program Guide

Outdoor Soccer Program: Do you have a child that is interested in soccer? If so the PSA is thrilled to offer the outdoor soccer program. The instructor will provide a step by step approach that will help build confidence and self-esteem and makes sports fun!!! This program helps kids have a positive sports experience, along with assisting in developing basic motor skills and works on those muscles. The Soccer program can include individuals with Cerebral Palsy, Developmental/Global Delay or a similar disability. The program is held weekly and allows the children the opportunity to work on their soccer skills, play games, and just have fun.
Program Runs:
Thursday from 6:30 – 8:00 pm
McKernan Public School, (114 St & 76 Ave)
May 15 —July 3
Registration Fee:
$40 or 1 Bingo


Roller Sledge Hockey: PSA is once again offering Roller Sledge Hockey. Roller Sledge is played like sledge hockey except players use specially designed sledges (a sledge which rides on roller blades). This is a great opportunity for new members and their friends to learn how to use a sledge. Volunteers will be on hand to work closely with the participants and provide instruction. skill development, safety and FUN will be emphasized. Mandatory equipment guidelines: all players must wear protective helmet and gloves

Date: Tuesdays May 6 —June 24
Time: 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm
Location: West End Soccer Centre (17415 – 106A Ave)

Registration Fee:
$80.00 or 2 bingos


Teen Group: The Paralympic Sports Association is once again holding TEEN NIGHT. Teen Group is a night filled with fun and activates. This is a great opportunity for Teens to be Teens and hang out with friends and participate in fun activates, which will be filled with FUN, FRIENDS and MEMORIES! Teen Group is available for individual’s ages 12 to 19 years.

Time: 7:00 to 8:30 (times will vary according to activity)
Location: Various Locations & Events in Edmonton

Stannix Dance:
Step into a whole new world of passion, energy, and self—expression……..the world of dance. PSA is once again offering the Hip Hop Dance Program. Come out and try your moves.

Family Paddle & Picnic
PSA Family Paddle & Picnic is a fun filled day with family and Friends. Come out and enjoy a day of sun, fun, and games. A great chance to try canoeing.

Date Saturday, July 19th, 12:00 - 4:00
Location: ACT Centre
Registration Fee:
$ 10:00 per Family (includes sandwiches & drinks and all cost affiliated with canoe rentals)

Awards Banquet & Family Dance
Join us for PSA's 43rd Awards Banquet! Each year the PSA hosts this annual event to honour our members and volunteers. This as always a great way to end the year and a good chance to recognize our many volunteers and dedicated participants.

Summer Camps
If you didn’t get a chance to participate in the summer camps last year, it is a great opportunity for all ages to get out and have some fun with your friends. Each camp is specifically designed for a different age group.
All camps are run by well-trained staff that works together to provide the best learning environment for participants and ensure that fun is had by all! Minimal physical assistance will be available (i.e. transfers). If an individual requires more care, it is recommended that they bring an attendant. There is no additional cost for the attendant.
The day camps will provide the opportunity to experience familiar and new activities. Participants are exposed to a wide variety of recreational and sporting activities. These include swimming, floor-hockey, nature walks, dancing, art and crafts, water fights and of course field trips!
Registration deadline is June 15 / Space is limited so register early!

Paralympic Sports Association Statements (PSA)

Mission: The Paralympic Sports Association (PSA) is an organization dedicated to enhancing the social, physical and mental health of children and adults with a disability through adapted recreational and sporting activities.

Vision: To provide recreational and sporting opportunities for individuals with a disability across the province of Alberta. To develop long lasting partnerships with organizations and communities that will increase awareness, opportunities and the quality of life for persons and families living with disabilities.

Values: The core values of the Paralympic Sports Association include:

• The acceptance of individual differences and abilities
• The promotion of independence and understanding
• The provision of opportunities for physical challenge and personal achievement
• The fostering of a sense of community and companionship to enhance quality of Life
