Sledge
Dogs to Travel to Thornhill, Ontario
This past April saw the Edmonton Sledge Dogs return to Ontario for
another Sledge Hockey tournament. It was held in Vaughn, Ontario
and was the Dogs second chance at a tournament of this calibre.
The Dogs practiced very hard since 2002 to get ready for this tournament.
The
hard work was very evident as the Dogs finished the round-robin
portion of the tournament with a record of 3 wins and only 1 loss.
They had scored a tournament high 29 goals and allowed a tournament
best, only 2 goals against. The Dogs showed everyone that they had
been practicing all year, by dominating opponents with their speed,
individual stick handling, impressive puck movement and unbelievable
shooting. Although they were a little disheartened by their one
loss, the team was upbeat and excited for their semi-final game,
knowing that they still had a chance for a medal.
Unfortunately
the Dogs lost the semi-final against eventual tournament champions,
Halten Peel Cruisers. The game was evenly matched and everyone that
watched the tournament siad it was the best game of the tournament.
The 2-1 defeat didn't dampen the Dogs' spirits as they headed into
the bronze medal game.
In
their final game, the Dogs came out attacking and scored two quick
golas to pace themselves to a 5-0 win and the bronze medal. This
year's tournament certainly showed everyone how far Edmonton Sledge
Hockey has come in the past few years. Their dominating performances
drew feat compliments from other players and parents who watched
the games. The bronze medal helped show the Dogs that they compete
with teams in the East and got them excited for their next chance
at a tournament.
