PSA is
teaming up again with the Cerebral Palsy Association in Alberta (CPAA)
to offer a summer camp designed specifically for children and youths between
the ages of 8 and 18 years with a physical disability. Led by our staff,
a well-trained team worked together in the delivery of the camp. Two resident
nurses were on hand to administer first aid and help with individual campers'
daily needs. The 2002 Camp Unity ran from July 21 to 26 at Camp HeHoHa
which is located on the picturesque Lake Isle just 90 km west of Edmonton.

CAMP
OBJECTIVES
- To develop social
skills of campers through leisure and sport while maintaining a non-threatening,
comfortable environment.
- To promote independence
and integration. Campers learn new skills as they participate in activities
which are designed to meet individual needs.
- Whenever possible,
the program will introduce able-bodied youth to help develop awareness
and acceptance of others who are physically disabled.
PROGRAMS
OFFERED
All campers have the opportunity to experience familiar and new activities
throughout their week at camp. Campers choose from a variety of arts and
crafts, performing arts; lake front activities such as canoeing, paddle
boating, barging, fishing, tubing, etc.; recreational activities such
as wall climbing, swimming, mini-Olympics; sporting activities such as
baseball, boccia, volleyball, floor hockey; as well as outtripping opportunities
such as campfires, camp-outs, outdoor meals and field trips.

ONE-FOR-ALL
SUMMER DAY CAMPS
Space is limited so Register Early!
Due to the overwhelming
success of the One for All Summer Day Camps, we decided to run them again.
If you did not get a chance to participate in this last year, it is a
great summer opportunity for all ages to get involved in. Each camp is
specifically designed to meet each targeted group of children, youths
or adults with a physical disability.
They are run by our
well-trained staff who work together to provide the best learning environment
for the participant and ensure fun is had by all! Minimal physical assistance
was available (i.e. transfers). However, if an individual requires more
care, it was recommended that they bring an attendant. There was no additional
cost for the attendant.
The Day camps provided
the opportunity to experience familiar and new activities. Our idea was
to expose the participants to a wide variety of recreational and sporting
activities. These included swimming, floorhockey, nature walks, dancing,
arts and crafts, field trips, roller sledging, karaoke and of course,
water fights!
